About Emily Walling

I have been painting as far back as I can remember. After witnessing me draw for hours on end, at the age of 8, my parents enrolled me in art lessons with an amazing local painter named Evelyn Leavens. Evelyn taught out of her home in Red Bank, New Jersey and had an enormous impact on my artwork. Not only did she help me develop my painting and drawing skills, she also exposed me to the best classic rock music and storytelling. Her talent, crankiness and sense of humor were unparalleled and I would not be who I am today without her.

After graduating from Clemson University in South Carolina, I pursued a 15 year career in insurance at Prudential Financial. While primarily focusing on education and my corporate career, art always remained an outlet for me and I was able to continue doing what I loved through painting classes at Mason Gross School of the Arts, Montclair Art Museum and Urban Arts at the Monroe Center in Hoboken, New Jersey.

After many years of living in New York City, my husband and I fell in love with a 120 year old house near the Navesink River in our hometown of Fair Haven, New Jersey. After having our two sons and leaving the corporate world behind, I have gradually gotten back into my painting and am so excited to share it with friends new and old. I mainly paint from photograph with an emphasis on architecture including but not limited to homes, landmarks and historical structures.
